"The worst beverage in America" is a bit more conservative in Canada, Tim Hortons told the Star on Wednesday.

One of Cold Stone Creamery's new flavour ice cream shakes, with 2,010 calories and 68 grams of saturated fat, was declared the unhealthiest drink out of a list of 20 worst, according to Men's Health magazine.

The ice cream company's peanut butter and chocolate milk shake packs the equivalent of 68 strips of bacon in saturated fat, the U.S. health magazine's Eat This, Not That website declared.

In Canada, Cold Stone is tucked inside 40 of the 3,000 Tim Hortons, including 17 across the Golden Horseshoe.

The giant-sized drink isn't sold in Canada, Tim Hortons spokesman David Morelli said. Just the 1,280-calorie size and the 1,690-calorie size are.

“Milkshakes are in indulgent treat,” said Morelli. “We offer lots of healthier options, too,” including a fruit smoothie in the test stage and high-fibre muffins.

Cold Stone is a “premium ice cream that uses dairy products that come from Canada,” he said. “Our customers have fallen in love with it.”

Cold Stone fans can indeed be fanatical, trading rhapsodies and discoveries online.

On the plus side, a 16-ounce PB&C shake delivers 60 per cent of a person’s daily requirement of Vitamin A, 80 per cent of the daily dose of calcium, 15 per cent of the iron and 8 per cent of the fibre, despite 58 grams of saturated fat, nearly three times what anyone should eat in a day.

“We want to give our customers options, so they can decide the kind of food they want to eat and where.”

To Morelli, a PC&B might be a “reward after a hard-won sports match” or a date drink to share with someone special.

Cold Stone sent the Star some “calorie saving tips” to temper the richness of its “super-premium ice cream.”

Substituting “Sinless Sweet Cream” for ice cream in any make-it-yourself dessert will cut 57 per cent of the calories and all of the fat, said spokeswoman Jami Thompson. Likewise, ladling blueberries rather than Reese’s Peanut Butter cups into an ice cream will eliminate 180 calories.

A diabolical plan to get Canadians FAT! I knew it! But I can't help it....mmmmm...yummy!

OMG! I almost freaked out when I read title of your seed, I love Tim Horton's coffee, it's a hell of a lot better than Starbucks cheaper too. The only thing I've eaten at Tim Horton's is a bagel.

LOL.

I love my Timmy's too...! Though, gotta admit, can't have too much French Vanilla because of the calories!

And yea, I was like 'wtf' with the title of the article too, until I read it further...its real personal stuff...I dislike starbucks too! Should be a Newsvine group for that!

I actually stopped by a Cold Stone/Tim Hortons mixed cafe somewhere in Ohio, just day before yesterday and had some nice, freshly prepared, banana caramel 'medium sized' scoop (read: extra large!). The portions are gigantic, but it was yummy, can't lie...!

I've only been to the coffee shops not the ones with Cold Stone, which is probably a good thing since I'm an ice cream junkie. I live in Texas and we don't have TH's here, but I drink as much as I can when visiting family in Michigan and Canada. We do have Dunkin Donuts (they have good coffee too) that just partnered with Baskin Robbins. Is this a new thing? Will we soon see Starbucks partner with Dairy Queen?

I believe a lot of new partnerships are going to happen...I haven't seen a Coldstone here though, but would absolutely love to see one open. Took us a while to get a Panera Bread nearby!

All these food places are trying to diversify in one way or another. Even McDonald's jumped in the Coffee fight by aggressively promoting their morning brew, giving it for free initially...

Hell, even Blockbusters always seems to add more food products near their counter everyday and there were rumours they were going to have like coffee stalls in their stores...

Woot !! Now we can kill ourselves with a cholesterol bullet without having to go thru the drudgery of having to cook and eat 4 pounds of bacon at a single sitting!! Wash down a big mess of fries with poutine with one of these babys and you are well on your way to the cardiac event of your choice :)
